Carbon Crunch 2021: the pre-COP26 edition

What are you interested in

For the last eight years, Carbon Crunch has been asking the tough questions about carbon reduction, hosting discussions and sharing best practice. In 2020 our event moved online across 4 days, and packed a punch as our speakers below show:

“If you’re not considering it at the earliest planning stage you are missing the biggest opportunity to reduce carbon.”
Chris Newsome, OBE, Chair of the Infrastructure Working Group, Green Construction Board

“If we focus on just the pipes and the wires, within a reasonable scenario that has a mix of electrification, hydrogen, heat networks and demand side response, we still see a heroic infrastructure build requirement.”
Alex Buckman, Practice manager, networks and energy storage, Energy Systems Catapult

“The net zero routemap tells a powerful story which allows us to talk to stakeholders about the challenges that we face as a sector.”
Samuel Larsen, Programme lead, Water UK

With COP26 coming to Glasgow in November and the call for increased urgency increasing, we would like to invite you to tune into Carbon Crunch 2021: the pre-COP26 edition from 4-7 October.

Using examples from the COP26 host city of Glasgow and across the UK, Carbon Crunch 2021: the pre-COP26 edition will explore the roles and responsibilities for national policy and regulation, local decision-makers, and asset owners and operators to enable and accelerate our transition to a net-zero world.

Monday 4 October 12:00-13:00 BST
COP26 and infrastructure: accelerating change
Book now
Around 70% of global greenhouse gas emissions stem from infrastructure, so we need to bring forward ways to decarbonise new, and existing, infrastructure assets with urgency. During this opening session we’ll focus on what net-zero and COP26 will mean for stakeholders involved in delivering infrastructure globally, and hear from industry leaders on what is happening in the COP26 host nation, Scotland, to decarbonise its infrastructure.

Tuesday 5 October 12:00-13:00 BST
Energy: navigating complexity at the decarbonisation nexus
Book now
Power sector decarbonisation has been a success story, however, with much deeper cuts still required and all other sectors reliant on the energy sector to address their own net-zero challenge, demands are changing. The energy transition is at the heart of decarbonisation across all sectors, and this session will explore how players in the energy sector are responding.

Wednesday 6 October 12:00-13:00 BST
Transport: responding to rapidly changing technologies,
behaviours and energy needs
Book now
Achieving net-zero requires an overhaul of the way that transport infrastructure investments are evaluated, and the provision of energy and fuels to support decarbonised transport technologies creates new demands on the energy sector. This session will highlight how those that are responsible for planning and delivering new transport infrastructure are tackling these issues.

Thursday 7 October 12:00-13:00 BST
A net-zero built environment: tackling heat, retrofit and embodied carbon
Book now
Our built environment requires significant changes, foremost among these challenges is how to address energy efficiency in existing building stocks and rapidly switch to zero carbon heat. The embodied impacts of buildings are also coming under increasing focus, with designers and decision makers increasingly being required to evaluate and justify the capital carbon associated with developments. This session will explore how estate operators and designers are adapting the way built environment projects are delivered to make them net-zero ready.

I do hope you can join us!
